Think Like a Cancer Scientist – Research, Care, and Prevention

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) is hosting a (FREE!) one-week virtual program titled “Think Like a Cancer Scientist – Research, Care, and Prevention” for rising 10th – 12th graders. (The program is open to all rising 10th – 12th graders who have had at least one high school level biology class.)

Through engaging activities, expert panels, and collaborative simulations, students will gain a foundational knowledge of cancer research, clinical care, and prevention while developing critical thinking and teamwork skills essential for STEM and healthcare careers. Topics that will be covered are:

  • Foundations of cancer research and care
  • Reading scientific articles
  • Tumor boards – multidisciplinary decision-making
  • Cancer risk, prevention and screening
  • Emerging research and treatments in cancer

Sessions will be held virtually on June 22-26, from 3-5pm each day.
